One of the top high school players in Texas, Collins led Waxahachie High School to a Class 4A runner-up finish for Coach Terry Wood in 2008. Garnered all-state honors as a senior, hitting .522 with nine homers, 35 RBIs, 49 runs scored and 23 stolen bases. Started all four years on the diamond, earning all-district honors each season. "Boomer is a very fundamentally sound player who brings a number of things to our program. At the plate, he has a great hitter’s mentality and has shown the ability to hit the ball to all fields. He is very athletic and has shown the versatility to play a number of positions (C, 2B, 3B, OF) at a high level. Boomer has a great background and that shows in his approach to both athletics and academics." Was a member of the 2009 NWL Championship runner-up Loggers. In five playoffs games, Collins went 6-19 (.316) with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
