Long pitched in 9 games as a freshman in 2012 and went 2-2. In 25 innings pitched, Long registered 18 strikeouts while Arizona went 18-9 in the tough Pac-12. It didn’t take Long for Lucas to record his first collegiate victory, coming on February 20th against Utah Valley. The righty came on in relief with Arizona trailing 4-1 in the third inning and turned in five innings of four-hit relief with six strikeouts and no walks. Wildcat offense proved to be inspired by Long’s performance and put up nine unanswered runs to earn a 12-6 victory.
Prior to Arizona: Long graduated with honors of distinction from the Academy in Holy Angels in 2011. As a senior, Long went 5-2 with a 1.28 ERA and 81 strikeouts and was named First Team All-State by the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association.
