The southpaw makes his Bats debut after two seasons at Wichita State of the Missouri Valley Conference. As a freshman, Smith made 20 appearances, 19 out of the bullpen, and posted an 8.62 ERA in 24 innings. He made 11 appearances and seven starts for the Hannibal Cavemen of the Prospect League last summer, where he posted a 3.93 ERA, a .229 opponents batting average and 40 strikeouts in 52.2 innings of work. Smith holds the school record for hits, doubles, games started and career strikeouts (193) at Pleasant Hill High School in Missouri. He was also recruited by Longview Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo. Through 13 starts this spring, Smith is 4-3 with a 4.73 ERA in 59 innings.
